What Are the Treatments for Heart Disease?

Once heart disease is diagnosed, treatment is critical to preserving and protect the health of a patient. The goals of treatment include stabilizing the condition, controlling symptoms, and providing a cure when possible. Dr. Tiffany advocates for preventative measures such as lifestyle changes to reduce risk of complications or to prevent heart disease from getting worse. Dr. Tiffany may recommend medications and surgery healthy lifestyle changes are not sufficient to control the disease. Some patients may benefit from medications to lower cholesterol levels and blood pressure levels, both key factors in cardiovascular disease. When procedures or surgery are necessary to treat heart disease, Dr. Tiffany will provide advice and information on the options available with the best success rates. For example, angioplasty is a non-surgical procedure, which opens narrow or blocked arteries to improve blood flow to the heart and reduce chest pain. In other situations, a Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting may be used to direct blood flow around a blockage.

What Lifestyle Changes Prevent Heart Disease?

Dr. Tiffany is passionate about helping her patients to lead healthier and more active lives to prevent heart disease. There are a number of adjustments a person can make to his or her lifestyle to prevent their chances of developing cardiovascular disease including:

  • Quitting smoking and tobacco use
  • Eat a healthy and balanced diet
  • Exercise for 30 minutes a day
  • Reduce alcohol consumption
  • Manage stress
